Rickfes Construction at the Big 5 Construct Kenya 2026

On Wednesday 21st October 2026, the CEO, delivered a keynote presentation at the Big 5 Construct Kenya event of the year.

The session examined technologies such as rammed earth, soil blocks, bamboo and recycled building materials, highlighting their potential applications within the construction industry. It also considered how these alternatives compare with conventional construction methods in terms of cost, durability, sustainability and overall performance.

The presentation reinforced the importance of evaluating construction technologies based on their suitability for specific projects, local conditions and long-term performance, rather than relying solely on conventional building approaches.

We already actively adopt these technologies and currently working on a project that is making use of rammed earth and soil blocks as shown here.

In closing, the emphasis was on the need to move beyond them as interesting concepts and begin approaching them as practical construction and investment opportunities.

We will continue our advocacy and skill transfer to further advance this agenda. You can find the full pdf presentation here and  youtube recording here.

That was great and practical especially on the issue of cost. We really need to revisit why we settled on the new forms of building and disregarded that which is right beneath our feet.
