Launch of the Lets Open The Door Campaign by HFHK
On Thursday 16th July 2026, the CEO had the opportunity to attend the launch of the #LetsOpenTheDoor campaign event hosted by Habitat for Humanity Kenya in Nairobi.
The event marked the unveiling of a new national campaign aimed at mobilizing government, development partners, the private sector, civil society and communities towards ensuring that every Kenyan (especially the marginalized) has access to safe, decent and resilient housing.
The launch introduced two flagship initiatives. The first, Opening the Doors to Women Building Resilient Manyattas, seeks to support Maasai women in improving traditional manyattas through climate-resilient housing solutions while preserving cultural heritage, enhancing health outcomes and creating economic opportunities. The second, Opening the Doors to Jigger-Free Homes, is a five-year initiative targeting the improvement of 10,000 household floors in jigger-endemic communities, directly benefiting approximately 50,000 people through healthier and more durable flooring solutions.
The event underscored the role that housing plays beyond shelter, demonstrating its impact on public health, climate resilience, gender empowerment, livelihoods and community development. Speakers called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to develop practical and scalable housing solutions for marginalized and vulnerable communities.
The discussions strongly align with our ongoing work in alternative building technologies, particularly rammed earth construction and other sustainable earth-based systems to deliver these houses, at an affordable cost without compromising quality or dignity.
Our ongoing engagement with Habitat for Humanity Kenya presents an opportunity to contribute technical expertise towards developing cost-effective and modern decent manyattas for the Maasai community.
Housing is not merely shelter; it is a catalyst for better health, economic opportunity and human dignity.
